Weekly review: Week ending August 2, 2019

| review, weekly
  • Us
    • We visited our cousins. Their kids put on a short play for us, complete with lighting and sound effects.
    • I helped GG with math review, using Google Translate to figure out what her paper worksheet said.
    • My mom told me the story about how I almost didn’t get nominated for the BPI Science Award, but ended up winning it anyway.
    • We hosted a get-together for many of my godparents.
  • Field trip
    • We went to Mind Museum. My membership let me take in five people total, so it worked out nicely.
  • Gross motor
    • A- wanted to be carried. While I carried her, I asked her, “Whose legs are getting stronger?” “Mama.” “Whose legs need to be getting stronger for a pedal bike?” “Me.” Then she got down and started running.
  • Language
    • “I want to sleep. I have to get some rest.”
    • “What are the girl marriers for? Guiding the boy ones?”
    • “I’m thinking about plans.”
    • “Back in the old days, I liked guacamole. Now I like both salsa and guacamole.”
    • “I like things neat and organized.”
    • A- was watching videos of herself on my phone. Lola invited her to stand closer so that they could both see. A- said, “I’d rather stand here. You can see half and I can see half.”
    • “Are those the hiccups of tiredness?” “They’re the hiccups of playness.”
    • “I have to have all the love I want.”
  • Self-care and independence
    • A- washed her hair with a dipper all by herself.
  • Emotion
    • A- missed me because I went downstairs. She got really upset.
  • Social
    • We had dinner at Tita Leslie’s. The kids had fun playing hide and seek, making things with playdough, dancing, and drawing.
    • Lola, A-, and I played the “Never Let the Balloon Sink” game.
  • Pretend
    • A- pretended to be a baby mosquito.
    • I made a puppet theatre out of cardboard, and the kids put on a puppet show.
  • Cognition
    • A- counted people in the car, separating them into categories.
    • “I finished my water. Now I can make something with this.” A- is beginning to think of things as loose parts.
    • We made different shapes using rubber bands and the Junior Engineer kit.
  • World
    • We dripped water on a coaster to experiment with its properties.
    • We did lots of little experiments with a slinky.
    • I tried making a coin sorter out of cardboard.
    • “My bladder is getting really full. Maybe I should stop and wait to let my intestines pass it down.”
    • A- got curious about astronaut videos.
